Travel Award
Travel Awards
We are pleased to offer a number of travel awards on an annual basis to attend dXCT. This is open to PhD students and early career researchers who have submitted an abstract for presentation, that are within the first five years of their academic career. The award covers the registration and up to £750 for hotels, travel and sustenance*, and is open to national and international attendees**.
To apply for the award, please write a personal statement of no more than 500 words covering: your current career stage and trajectory, your research area, and why attending dXCT is of benefit to your future aspirations. At the end of the short statement, please include an estimated budget and have it countersigned by your supervisor or head of department. The submission should be made directly to info@dxct.co.uk with the subject heading “Travel Award Application”. The deadline for submission is at abstract close (including any announced extension), with the outcome communicated within one month of closing.
*Reimbursement policy: The amounts should be tabulated in a spreadsheet, itemized and numbered, with corresponding receipts and can be claimed at the end of the conference when attendance has been confirmed. Only receipted expenses are claimable and will be reimbursed within 1 month. Should it exceed the £750 limit (excluding the conference fee) the committee are only obliged to refund up to the maximum amount, but may exercise their discretion dependent on available funds.
Hotels and travel should be booked by the applicant using the recommended hotels (unless fully booked), and travel in standard class only. Taxis will only be reimbursed where no reasonable alternative was available, or when travelling at night. The hotel if necessary, can include the night before the conference, and the night at the end of the conference if there were no reasonable travel possibilities.
Reasonable requests will always be reimbursed, but the committee reserve the right to refuse or only partially refund where they determine the amount exceeds what constitutes reasonable for the location of the conference.
**International attendees will likely incur higher costs due to flights. Please continue to apply should you exceed the £750 threshold. The committee want to maximise attendees where their budgets might not allow. If on the basis of your application you would be invited, the committee will either partially cover your costs up to the threshold, or seek additional funding to cover your costs.
